Brian Kemball-Cook: 1912-2002
Brian Kemball-Cook was a Classics Scholar at Balliol College Oxford, then followed a career as schoolmaster and finally Headmaster at Direct Grant grammar schools in Blackburn and Bedford.
In his retirement, he returned to the Classical texts he first admired many years ago - by turns amusing, philosophical and bloodthirsty! - determined to make translations that were accessible to a general reader yet which retained the unique rhythm of the poems, originally written for oral declamation.
Brian died in September 2002, three months before his 90th birthday.
